So you’ve got multiple tax rates do you? For your situation you will have to use both the taxing schemes AND product tax codes. For example, let’s pretend that we’re trying to set up inFlow to work with HST in Ontario (13%), just GST (5%) and no tax (0%). Because HST in Ontario is one tax you will want to set up your taxing scheme with a “primary” tax of 13% (HST) and a “secondary” tax of 5% (just GST) like so:
To reach this window go to:
- Main Menu > Settings > General Settings
- Click Pricing & Tax tab
- Click Edit Taxing Schemes button
- Enter your primary and secondary tax rates (in this example: HST 13% and GST 5%)
- Click to Save & Close.
Then you’ll set your product tax codes up so that you can identify your items as being taxable via only your primary tax (HST), only your secondary tax (GST) or not taxable at all. It looks like this:
To access your product tax codes:
- Main Menu > Settings > General Settings
- Click Pricing & Tax tab
- Click Edit Product Tax Codes button
- Create Tax codes for HST, GST and no Tax. (in this example: Taxable – HST; Taxable – GST and Non-Taxable)
- Click to Save & Close.
To set the applicable tax code for your products:
- Go to Main Menu > Inventory > Product List
- Double click to open your product record and select the applicable tax code
- Click Save.
This means that once you mark your various products (via their product records) so that the system knows which tax to apply you can simply run your order and have both taxes applied. The final result looks like this:
