You can generate serials for items of this type or simply enter them yourself, whichever you choose.<\/p>\n\n<blockquote><p><strong>NOTE<\/strong>: A product\u2019s type is permanent once saved so it\u2019s important to set up your product and choose to make it \u201cserialized\u201d before you start receiving stock.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n<p><strong>To create your serialized product:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Create a new product via <em>Main Menu &gt; Inventory &gt; New Product.<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Enter the name (or part number) in <em>Item Name\/Code<\/em> field.<\/li>\n<li>Select \u201cSerialized Product\u201d from the Type dropdown.<\/li>\n<li>Click Save.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Now you can move on to purchasing, selling, or tracking your serialized item.<\/p>\n\n<h2>Purchasing your serialized product<\/h2>\n<p>Purchasing serialized products is just like other stocked products with one exception, you\u2019ll want to enter&#8211;or have inFlow create&#8211;serial numbers.<\/p>\n\n<p><div class=\"article-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-18291 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/onpremise.inflowinventory.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/04\/30823230_1.gif\" alt=\"Purchasing serialized items \" width=\"1014\" height=\"731\" \/><\/div><\/p>\n\n<p><strong>To purchase\/receive a serialized product:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>In a purchase order, choose your product.<\/li>\n<li>Click into the <em>Quantity<\/em> field to enter the quantity you will be buying.<\/li>\n<li>If you click the quantity box you\u2019ll see a dropdown with a number of boxes corresponding to the quantity you typed in. Here&#8217;s where you can either:<br \/>\na) Enter your serial numbers manually; or<br \/>\nb) Let inFlow generate them for you.<\/li>\n<li>If you&#8217;re going to have inFlow generate your serials: Click the link to <em>Generate Serials<\/em>\u00a0where you can specify a <em>Prefix<\/em>, <em>Next Number<\/em>, and <em>Suffix<\/em> for your serial numbers right from this window.<\/li>\n<li>Complete your purchase order as usual to update your inventory.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>You\u2019ll notice that once selected, your serialized item has three dots in its <em>Quantity<\/em> field. If the dots are colored grey, your serials have not been entered and you\u2019ll need to follow the steps above. Otherwise, the dots will be colored blue, indicating that the serials have been entered.<\/p>\n\n<h2><strong>Selling your serialized product\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Selling serialized products is just like other stocked products with one exception; you\u2019ll want to enter the serial numbers for the items you\u2019re selling.<\/p>\n\n<p>.<div class=\"article-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-18281 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/onpremise.inflowinventory.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/04\/30823230_2.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"1014\" height=\"731\" \/><\/div><\/p>\n\n<p><strong>To sell\/ship a serialized product:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>In your sales order, choose your serialized item (you\u2019ll see the three dots appear in the <em>Quantity<\/em> field)<\/li>\n<li>Click into the <em>Quantity<\/em> field to enter the number of serialized units you\u2019ll be selling.<\/li>\n<li>Next you will have to select the serial number for each unit. To do so either<br \/>\na) Click into the box that pops up and start typing in your serial number(s); or<br \/>\nb) Click into the box and begin scanning your serial number (s).<\/li>\n<li>Complete your sales order to update your inventory.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n<h2>Tracking movement of serials<\/h2>\n<p>Because each serial can have its own movement, we\u2019ve included a <em>Serial<\/em> filter in the <em>Movement History<\/em> tab of a product record so you can easily track its movement. You can get to this screen from the <em>Product Record &gt; Movement History<\/em> tab.
