To do so go to the<em> Main Menu &gt; General &gt; Export Data<\/em> and choose the type of data you&#8217;re looking to import. This can get you a template to use for inputting your data! You can also have a look <a href=\"https:\/\/onpremise.inflowinventory.com\/support\/article\/41121884\/how-do-i-import-data-to-inflow\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a> for more information on creating your file.<\/p>\n<p>However, if you&#8217;ve already created your file for import but you&#8217;re still running into problems, we&#8217;ve collected some common (and easily fixed) problems that users have noticed with imports below. Click on the link to jump to the section relevant to your issue:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/inflowinventory.com\/support\/article\/34460640\/im-having-problems-importing-my-data-what-do-i-do#importgroupederror\">Everything is bunched up together \/ looks like a single column<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/inflowinventory.com\/support\/article\/34460640\/im-having-problems-importing-my-data-what-do-i-do#importreqfieldserror\">Error: &#8220;Required fields missing&#8221;<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/inflowinventory.com\/support\/article\/34460640\/im-having-problems-importing-my-data-what-do-i-do#importzeroerror\">Data is missing zeroes \/ automatically rounded in Excel<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/inflowinventory.com\/support\/article\/34460640\/im-having-problems-importing-my-data-what-do-i-do#importcrash\">inFlow crashes during import \/ nothing happens after clicking import<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/inflowinventory.com\/support\/article\/34460640\/im-having-problems-importing-my-data-what-do-i-do#unicode\">My unicode characters are turned into question marks\/strange symbols<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2><strong><a name=\"importgroupederror\"><\/a>1. Everything appears bunched together<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><div class=\"article-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-17091 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/onpremise.inflowinventory.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/04\/34460640_1.png\" alt=\"34460640_1\" width=\"494\" height=\"608\" srcset=\"https:\/\/onpremise.inflowinventory.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/04\/34460640_1.png 494w, https:\/\/onpremise.inflowinventory.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/04\/34460640_1-244x300.png 244w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 494px) 100vw, 494px\" \/><\/div><\/p>\n<p>The result looks something like the animation above. This can happen if:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>if you clicked <em>Save<\/em> to save your file in Excel, instead of <em>Save As &gt; select file type CSV &#8211; Comma Delimited<\/em><\/li>\n<li>if you are on European (or French Canadian) operating systems where the delimiter\/separator is a semi-colon &#8220;;&#8221; and not comma &#8220;,&#8221;.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The problem is easily solved by correcting your Excel file.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>In Excel, click the <em>Data<\/em>\u00a0tab at the top.<\/li>\n<li>Highlight the first column (&#8220;Column A&#8221;) and click on <em>Text to Column<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li>It will ask you to choose the file type, choose <em>Delimited<\/em>.<div class=\"article-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-17081 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/onpremise.inflowinventory.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/04\/34460640_2.png\" alt=\"34460640_2\" width=\"521\" height=\"419\" srcset=\"https:\/\/onpremise.inflowinventory.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/04\/34460640_2.png 521w, https:\/\/onpremise.inflowinventory.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/04\/34460640_2-300x241.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 521px) 100vw, 521px\" \/><\/div><\/li>\n<li>On this next screen, check &#8220;TAB&#8221; and &#8220;COMMA&#8221; for delimiter types. Hit <em>Next<\/em>, then hit <em>Finish<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li>Re-save your file as a .csv file, just in case&#8230; by going to <em>Save as<\/em>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>For users on the EU operating system, unfortunately you will have to modify the .csv file in notepad, to change the separator from semi-colon to comma.<\/p>\n<p><div class=\"article-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-17071 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/onpremise.inflowinventory.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/04\/34460640_3.gif\" alt=\"34460640_3\" width=\"580\" height=\"544\" \/><\/div><\/p>\n<p>Here are the full steps following the animation above:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Right-click on your Excel file and click <em>Open With<\/em>. Choose <em>Notepad<\/em> to open your file in notepad.<\/li>\n<li>Click <em>Edit<\/em> and then click <em>Replace<\/em>&#8230; (or press CTRL + H together as a shortcut)<\/li>\n<li>In the <em>Find<\/em> box, type in this semi-colon symbol: <strong>;<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>In the <em>Replace<\/em> box, type in the comma symbol: <strong>,<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Click <em>Replace All<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li>Now click <em>File &gt; Save As<\/em>. Make sure to save it as &#8220;All file types&#8221;.<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2><strong><a name=\"importreqfieldserror\"><\/a>2. Error: &#8220;Required fields missing&#8221;<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>For every import there are several fields that are required while others are optional. If you&#8217;re getting an error saying that required fields are missing, first check your required fields to be certain they&#8217;re included in your file. There are different required fields for each type of data so please see the table below:<\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><strong> Data Type<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/td>\n<td><strong> Required Fields<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Customer<\/td>\n<td>Name<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Vendor<\/td>\n<td>Name<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Product<\/td>\n<td>Item Name\/Code, Type*<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Inventory<\/td>\n<td>Item Name\/Code, Location, Quantity<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Sales Order<\/td>\n<td>Customer Name, Order Date, Item Name\/Code, Quantity<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Purchase Order<\/td>\n<td>Vendor Name, Order Date, Item Name\/Code, Quantity<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Bill of Materials<\/td>\n<td>Finished Item, Component Item, Quantity<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>If you&#8217;re sure that all your required fields are full you may try adding an additional column to your file in which you&#8217;ll place 1&#8217;s for each row that contains information. Since we&#8217;re using CSV, empty cells at the end of a row can sometimes confuse the system so adding this column can correct that issue (you won&#8217;t be importing it so it will not appear in your database).<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>Note that for product type, if no selection is made your file will still import but your item will be set as &#8220;stockable&#8221; and since this is not something that can be changed it is important to specify when importing.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2><strong><a name=\"importzeroerror\"><\/a>3. My barcode values have changed\/rounded up after I saved!<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><div class=\"article-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-17061 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/onpremise.inflowinventory.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/04\/34460640_4.png\" alt=\"34460640_4\" width=\"492\" height=\"403\" srcset=\"https:\/\/onpremise.inflowinventory.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/04\/34460640_4.png 492w, https:\/\/onpremise.inflowinventory.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/04\/34460640_4-300x246.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 492px) 100vw, 492px\" \/><\/div><\/p>\n<p>If you have long barcode values and they now show 4.12E+11 instead of 41234053958 , this is because Excel likes to round your numbers to make them look nicer. To fix the issue, highlight the barcode column, right-click select <em>Format Cells<\/em> and go to <em>Number<\/em>. Here, change the decimal from 2 places to 0 places. You should see the number change back to the correct format. Save it, and then do your import.<\/p>\n<p>If you re-open your .csv file again after this you&#8217;ll see that Excel&#8217;s changed it back to the &#8220;neat&#8221; version despite what you have saved before. This means unfortunately you&#8217;ll need to re-format it each time you open your .csv file.<\/p>\n<h2><strong><a id=\"importcrash\"><\/a>4. inFlow crashes after importing \/ nothing happens <\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>If you&#8217;re trying to import your data and clicking the <em>Import<\/em> button does nothing, please try the following:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Open your local services window following the instructions below based on your operating system:<br \/>\n<strong>WINDOWS XP<\/strong>: Click Start &gt; Run &gt; and then type in &#8216;services.msc&#8217;<br \/>\n<strong>WINDOWS 7\/ VISTA\/ 8 \/ 10<\/strong>: Click Start (or hit your Windows key on your keyboard), type in &#8216;services&#8217; (or <em>Control Panel &gt; System and Security &gt; Administrative Tools &gt; Services<\/em>)<\/li>\n<li>Scroll down this screen until you see a service named <em>Distributed Transaction Coordinator<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li>Right-click this and select <em>Start<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li>If the <em>Start\/ Restart <\/em>options are unavailable to you, it could be the service was disabled entirely. Right-click and select <em>Properties<\/em>, then set its startup type to <em>Automatic<\/em>. You should be able to start the service now.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2><strong><span id=\"unicode\"><\/span>5. My unicode characters are turned into question marks\/strange symbols<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Excel does not save unicode\/UTF-8 characters in a spreadsheet when it\u2019s saved as a simple CSV (Comma delimited) file.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you have unicode characters in your spreadsheet, p<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">lease save it as a CSV UTF-8 (Comma delimited) (*csv) file type before importing it into inFlow.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><div class=\"article-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-24647\" src=\"https:\/\/onpremise.inflowinventory.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/04\/3319_5.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"940\" height=\"356\" srcset=\"https:\/\/onpremise.inflowinventory.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/04\/3319_5.png 940w, https:\/\/onpremise.inflowinventory.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/04\/3319_5-300x114.png 300w, https:\/\/onpremise.inflowinventory.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/04\/3319_5-768x291.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 940px) 100vw, 940px\" \/><\/div><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If your first attempt to import data to inFlow On-Premise didn\u2019t work or you\u2019re looking for a little guidance try exporting the type of information that you want to import.
