Please try each of the following solutions to fix the backup or restore process:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Are you having trouble <strong>restoring<\/strong> a backup into inFlow?<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"#unzipping\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Try unzipping your backup file<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#rserver\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Try restoring directly from the server computer<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#sqlversion\">Check to see which version of SQL you&#8217;re running<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#rregion\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Does your computer use non-English regional settings?<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#version\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Was the backup made in a newer version of inFlow On-Premise?<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/onpremise.inflowinventory.com\/support\/error-media-family-on-device-is-incorrectly-formed-sql-server-cannot-process-this-media-family\/?searched-term=error-media-family-on-device\">Error: \u201cSQL Server cannot process this media family\u201d<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Are you having trouble <strong>backing up<\/strong> your data?<\/span><\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"#space\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Check that you have enough space to back up your data<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"#bserver\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Try backing up directly from the server computer<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"#local\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Be sure to back up to a local drive (external and network drives might fail)<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"#bregion\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Does your computer us non-English Regional settings?<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"#manual\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Try backing up manually<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 id=\"restoring\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Are you having trouble restoring a backup into inFlow?<\/span><\/h2>\n<h3 id=\"unzipping\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Try unzipping your backup file<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">inFlow On-Premise backup files that end in .ifz are compressed to save space. Sometimes inFlow On-Premise has trouble unzipping the backup file. Try these steps to manually unzip the file and extract an uncompressed backup file:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Make a new copy of your .ifz backup file.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Right click the new copy and choose <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rename<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Change the file extension to .zip instead of .ifz. (e.g: \u201cinFlowBackup.ifz\u201d becomes \u201cinFlowBackup.zip\u201d)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Click <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yes<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the warning window.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Right-click on the zip file and click <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Extract all<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Choose a location to save the extracted files.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Check the location you saved the files for a file called inFlow.ifi.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Go back into inFlow On-Premise and attempt to restore from the new inFlow.ifi file.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3 id=\"rserver\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Try restoring directly from the server computer<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you\u2019re using inFlow on multiple computers, please try doing the restore from the server computer. Sometimes, particularly for large databases, the restore will fail when going across a network. If you\u2019re not sure which one is your server computer, check by going to the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Main Menu &gt; Options &gt; Connection Settings<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. It will show the name of the computer you are connected to (which would be the server).<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><a id=\"SQLversion\"><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Check which version of SQL you\u2019re running<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you\u2019re having trouble transferring your database from one computer to another, please try checking which versions of SQL they are both running. Sometimes, if the two computers are running different versions of SQL the new computer won\u2019t be able to read the old data. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/onpremise.inflowinventory.com\/support\/article\/64645420\/error-the-backup-file-could-not-be-restored-since-it-was-made-using-a-newer-version-of-sql-server\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Try following these steps here to find out what version you&#8217;re on.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"rregion\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Does your computer use non-English regional settings?<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s possible that you are being affected by a Windows issue that occurs on computers that use non-English regional settings. \u00a0This is particularly likely if you use more than one language on the computer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To fix this issue you can take these steps:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Open your <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Start<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> menu and type Control Panel. Click on the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Control Panel<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> desktop app.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Click on <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Region<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Click on <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Change Date, Time, or Number formats<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Click on the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Administrative<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> tab.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Under <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Welcome screen and new user accounts<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, click <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Copy Settings<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Check the boxes for <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Welcome screen and system accounts<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">New user accounts<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at the bottom of this window, then hit <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">OK<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Try backing up or restoring again.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3 id=\"version\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Was the backup made in a newer version of inFlow On-Premise?<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">inFlow On-Premise backup files can\u2019t be restored into an older version of inFlow than they were made in. \u00a0As an example: a v3.5.2 backup file cannot be restored into v3.5.1. If you get an error message that says the backup file was made using a newer version of inFlow, then you\u2019ll need to make sure you\u2019re restoring into a compatible version of inFlow first.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you\u2019re not sure what version the backup file is from, the file name usually contains the version number (e.g. v352), or you can go to the computer you created the backup from and check inFlow\u2019s<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Main Menu &gt; Options &gt; About inFlow<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for the version number.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/onpremise.inflowinventory.com\/support\/article\/41567110\/i-want-to-download-an-older-version-of-inflow-can-i\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Click here to see which version of inFlow you\u2019re eligible to use<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. You\u2019ll only be able to use backup files from this version or any older version of inFlow.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If the version number on your backup is newer than your eligible version, then you\u2019ll have to either upgrade to a newer version of inFlow by downloading the <a href=\"https:\/\/manage.inflowinventory.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">newer version of inFlow from the Manage portal<\/a> <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">or use a different backup file that\u2019s compatible with your eligible version. \u00a0You can check <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/onpremise.inflowinventory.com\/support\/article\/35622904\/can-i-change-the-auto-backup-location-or-time-how-do-i-set-up-off-site-backups\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">this article<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for instructions on how to check for automatically created backups, which are made daily by default.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"SQL\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Error: \u201cmedia family on device is incorrectly formed. SQL server cannot process this media family.\u201d<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This message means you\u2019ve restored a backup from a computer that has a newer version of SQL Server (this is how we store your data through inFlow). <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/onpremise.inflowinventory.com\/support\/article\/99040917\/error-media-family-on-device-is-incorrectly-formed-sql-server-cannot-process-this-media-family\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Click here to see the full instructions for how to fix this.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"backup\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Are you having trouble backing up your data?<\/span><\/h2>\n<h3 id=\"space\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Check that you have enough space to back up your data<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you try to back up your data to a specific drive, make sure you have enough space to create the backup file. For example: if your database is 1GB and you\u2019re trying to save it into your C:\\ drive, the C:\\ drive must have space to accommodate that 1GB file. To check how much space is available on the C:\\ drive, open a File Explorer window, click on This PC, then look at the C:\\ drive to see how much space is listed as free.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><div class=\"article-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn2.inflowinventory.com\/inFlowWebsite\/images\/KBImages\/space.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"758\" height=\"421\" \/><\/div><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"bserver\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Try backing up directly from the server computer<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you\u2019re using inFlow on multiple computers, please try doing the backup from the server computer. Then click <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Execute<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<pre><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">BACKUP DATABASE inFlow TO DISK = N'C:\\inFlow_backup.ifi' WITH FORMAT<\/span>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">GO<\/span><\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Check your C:\\ drive to see that the backup is there.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you do not see the \u201cinFlow Utilities\u201d option or the \u201cPerform a Database Query\u201d option, you may be on an older version of inFlow, or you may not be on the server computer.
