These files can interfere with new installs and with starting inFlow.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>If you&#8217;ve been using inFlow, <strong>PLEASE be sure to save your data<\/strong> before you uninstall.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"#step1\">Step 1: Check your Windows version\u00a0<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#step2\">Step 2: Save your data before uninstalling<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#step3\">Step 3: Uninstalling<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#step4\">Step 4: Cleaning up<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#step5\">Step 5: Reinstalling<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 id=\"step1\">Step 1:\u00a0Check which version of Windows you have<\/h2>\n<blockquote><p>Skip this section if you already know which version of Windows you are using.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>If you&#8217;re not sure which version of Windows you&#8217;re using please click here to find out:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/windows.microsoft.com\/en-CA\/windows\/which-operating-system\">http:\/\/windows.microsoft.com\/en-CA\/windows\/which-operating-system<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Another way you can do this also is to click &#8220;Start&#8221; (or press your Windows key button on your keyboard), type in &#8220;winver&#8221; and press Enter. This should give you the &#8220;About Windows&#8221; screen which will show you your Windows version.<\/p>\n<p>Once you know your Windows version, please move on to the next section!<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"step2\">Step 2: Save your data before uninstalling<\/h2>\n<blockquote><p>Skip this section if the inFlow installation failed, but you have not run inFlow before and don&#8217;t have any data to save yet.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>If you&#8217;ve already been using inFlow before and it&#8217;s having problems running, you&#8217;ll want to make sure you have your data saved.<\/p>\n<p>As you won&#8217;t be able to run inFlow, we&#8217;ll need to\u00a0backup your data from outside the program. (<strong>again, skip this step if you have not installed inFlow before and don&#8217;t have any data yet<\/strong>).<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Open &#8220;File Explorer&#8221; or &#8220;My Computer&#8221; and then click the address bar at the top.<\/li>\n<li>Type in <code>C:\\ProgramData\\inFlow inventory<\/code> and hit Enter (see screenshot below if you&#8217;re not sure where to type). It will take you to the folder containing your data.<div class=\"article-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-18921 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/onpremise.inflowinventory.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/09\/55562450_1.png\" alt=\"ProgramData folder\" width=\"853\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/onpremise.inflowinventory.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/09\/55562450_1.png 853w, https:\/\/onpremise.inflowinventory.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/09\/55562450_1-300x211.png 300w, https:\/\/onpremise.inflowinventory.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/09\/55562450_1-768x540.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 853px) 100vw, 853px\" \/><\/div><\/li>\n<li>Once you&#8217;ve located the folder, copy the following two files\u00a0to your desktop:\u00a0<strong>inFlow.mdf\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>inFlow_log.LDF.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Check the &#8220;Backup&#8221; folder. You should have automatic backups from the last 30 days, with the latest auto-backup dated the last time you ran inFlow. This folder remains even after uninstalling, but to be safe you can copy your latest auto-backup to the desktop.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<blockquote><p><strong>If you don&#8217;t have any .mdf , .ldf, or Backup folder in this window, you are not on the server\/main computer which is where your data would be stored. <\/strong>This means you would be proceeding with a cleanup for a client\/secondary install. You may skip to the next step as your data would be safe on the server\/main computer.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>Having trouble moving the .mdf and .ldf files?<\/h3>\n<p>Try the following based on your Windows version:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><strong>Windows XP or Server 2003:<\/strong>\u00a0click\u00a0Start\u00a0 &gt;\u00a0 Run\u00a0 &gt;\u00a0\u00a0type\u00a0services.msc &gt; press Enter<br \/>\n<strong>Vista, Windows 7 or Server 2008 R2:<\/strong>\u00a0click\u00a0Start\u00a0 &gt;\u00a0\u00a0type\u00a0services.msc &gt; press Enter<br \/>\n<strong>Windows 8 or Windows 10:<\/strong>\u00a0Windows Key &gt; type services.msc &gt; press Enter<\/p>\n<p>This will open the services window. Scroll to <em>&#8220;inFlow Inventory Service&#8221; or <\/em>&#8220;<em>SQL Server (INFLOWSQL)<\/em>&#8220;, right click and select Stop service.<\/p>\n<p><div class=\"article-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-18911 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/onpremise.inflowinventory.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/09\/55562450_2.png\" alt=\"Stop SQL Server service\" width=\"957\" height=\"724\" srcset=\"https:\/\/onpremise.inflowinventory.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/09\/55562450_2.png 957w, https:\/\/onpremise.inflowinventory.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/09\/55562450_2-300x227.png 300w, https:\/\/onpremise.inflowinventory.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/09\/55562450_2-768x581.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 957px) 100vw, 957px\" \/><\/div><br \/>\nOnce this service is stopped, you should be able to move the .mdf and .ldf files as outlined in step 3 above.\u00a0<strong>Close the services window<\/strong>\u00a0and move on to the next step, clean up!<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"step3\">Step 3: Uninstalling<\/h2>\n<p>To uninstall inFlow On-Premise from your computer:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Complete the following based on your version ofWindows:<strong>Windows\u00a0XP or Server 2003:<\/strong>\u00a0click\u00a0Start\u00a0 &gt;\u00a0 Control Panel &gt; Uninstall (or Add\/Remove Programs).<strong>Vista, Windows 7 or Server 2008 R2:<\/strong>\u00a0click\u00a0Start\u00a0 &gt; \u00a0Control Panel &gt; Uninstall (or Programs and Features)<strong>Windows 8 \/ Windows 10:<\/strong>\u00a0Windows Key &gt; type Control Panel &gt;\u00a0Uninstall (or Programs and Features).<div class=\"article-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-18901\" src=\"https:\/\/onpremise.inflowinventory.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/09\/55562450_3.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"802\" height=\"423\" srcset=\"https:\/\/onpremise.inflowinventory.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/09\/55562450_3.png 1125w, https:\/\/onpremise.inflowinventory.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/09\/55562450_3-300x158.png 300w, https:\/\/onpremise.inflowinventory.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/09\/55562450_3-768x405.png 768w, https:\/\/onpremise.inflowinventory.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/09\/55562450_3-1024x540.png 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 802px) 100vw, 802px\" \/><\/div><\/li>\n<li>Right-click on inFlow and select &#8220;Uninstall&#8221;. If inFlow Inventory is not listed\u00a0there, please move on to the next step.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2 id=\"step4\">Step 4: Cleaning up<\/h2>\n<p>If you\u00a0plan on reinstalling inFlow On-Premise, there are a couple things we need to remove for cleanup.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Don&#8217;t panic if the steps require you to check folders and you don&#8217;t see the mentioned files! It means the cleanup for that step is done and you should move on to the next step.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3>Uninstall\u00a0 Microsoft SQL Server<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Next, we&#8217;ll need to remove Microsoft SQL Server (backend database for inFlow to store your data).\u00a0<strong>Proceed with caution!<\/strong>\u00a0You may have other programs using Microsoft SQL Server. In the Control Panel window:<strong>Windows XP or Server 2003:<\/strong>\u00a0click\u00a0Start\u00a0 &gt;\u00a0 Control Panel &gt; Uninstall (or Add\/Remove Programs).<br \/>\n<strong>Vista, Windows 7 or Server 2008 R2:<\/strong>\u00a0click\u00a0Start\u00a0 &gt; \u00a0Control Panel &gt; Uninstall (or Programs and Features).<br \/>\n<strong>Windows 8 \/ Windows 10:<\/strong>\u00a0Windows Key &gt; type Control Panel &gt;\u00a0Uninstall (or Programs and Features).<\/li>\n<li>Type in &#8220;Microsoft SQL&#8221; in the search at the top right to narrow down your choices. Remove in priority:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>Microsoft SQL Server 2005, or 2008 R2, or 2014 (this will remove all other listed SQL dependents like &#8220;Setup&#8221; and &#8220;Support Files&#8221;)<\/li>\n<li>Microsoft SQL Server Native Client<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><div class=\"article-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-18891\" src=\"https:\/\/onpremise.inflowinventory.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/09\/55562450_4.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"787\" height=\"415\" srcset=\"https:\/\/onpremise.inflowinventory.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/09\/55562450_4.png 1125w, https:\/\/onpremise.inflowinventory.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/09\/55562450_4-300x158.png 300w, https:\/\/onpremise.inflowinventory.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/09\/55562450_4-768x405.png 768w, https:\/\/onpremise.inflowinventory.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/09\/55562450_4-1024x540.png 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 787px) 100vw, 787px\" \/><\/div><\/p>\n<h3>Other programs\u00a0may be\u00a0using SQL Server<\/h3>\n<p>When you uninstall Microsoft SQL Server, a window\u00a0<em>may<\/em>\u00a0show up like the one below. If it doesn&#8217;t, it means that inFlow&#8217;s the only program using SQL Server and it would go straight to uninstalling. If you do see this though, read on to make sure you are only removing INFLOW related files and not other programs that\u00a0also use SQL Server.<\/p>\n<p><div class=\"article-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-18881 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/onpremise.inflowinventory.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/09\/55562450_5.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"820\" height=\"615\" srcset=\"https:\/\/onpremise.inflowinventory.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/09\/55562450_5.png 820w, https:\/\/onpremise.inflowinventory.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/09\/55562450_5-300x225.png 300w, https:\/\/onpremise.inflowinventory.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/09\/55562450_5-768x576.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 820px) 100vw, 820px\" \/><\/div><\/p>\n<p>Ensure that you are removing only the\u00a0<strong>INFLOWSQL\u00a0<\/strong>instance. If it lists any other instance name there, click the dropdown button beside it and select the INFLOWSQL instance.\u00a0<strong>If you do not see the INFLOWSQL instance, cancel the SQL uninstall as this means you have other programs relying on SQL Server.\u00a0<\/strong>Move on to the next step.<\/p>\n<h3>Cleanup leftover files<\/h3>\n<p>Next, we need to make sure there are no leftover files after uninstalling.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Please go to the directories below:<br \/>\n<code>C:\\Program Files<br \/>\nC:\\Program Files (x86)<\/code><\/li>\n<li>Make sure that there is\u00a0<strong>no<\/strong>\u00a0folder named &#8220;inFlow inventory&#8221; in either of those directories. If there is, delete the folder.<\/li>\n<li>Check <span style=\"font-family: Courier New\">C:\\ProgramData\\inFlow Inventory <\/span>and make sure only three folders are listed: &#8220;Backup&#8221;, &#8220;Logs&#8221;, (you may see a &#8220;Temp&#8221; folder too). There should be\u00a0<strong>no<\/strong>\u00a0other files except those three folders.<\/li>\n<li>Check the following folders:<code>C:\\Program Files\\Microsoft SQL Server<br \/>\nC:\\Program Files (x86)\\Microsoft SQL Server<\/code>If there are any folders in here named &#8220;MSSQL10_50.INFLOWSQL&#8221;, delete it.<br \/>\n<strong>If there are MSSQL.1 AND MSSQL.2 (or more), skip to the next step.<\/strong><br \/>\nIf there&#8217;s only one called MSSQL.1, and no MSSQL.2, etc., then delete the files in these two folders:<strong>32-bit Windows:<\/strong><br \/>\n<code>C:\\Program Files\\Microsoft SQL Server\\MSSQL.1\\MSSQL\\Data<br \/>\n<\/code><code>C:\\Program Files\\Microsoft SQL Server\\MSSQL.1\\MSSQL\\Template Data<\/code><strong>64-bit Windows:<\/strong><br \/>\n<code>C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Microsoft SQL Server\\MSSQL.1\\MSSQL\\Data<br \/>\nC:\\Program Files (x86)\\Microsoft SQL Server\\MSSQL.1\\MSSQL\\Template Data<\/code>If you don&#8217;t see any of those folders, skip to the next step.<\/li>\n<li>Check this folder: <code>C:\\Windows\\System32\\config\\systemprofile\\AppData\\Local\\Microsoft\\Microsoft SQL Server Local DB\\Instances<\/code> .It should be empty. If you see a folder in here named\u00a0<strong>INFLOWSQL,\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0delete it.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>You&#8217;re done cleanup! Move on to the next step for installing inFlow.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"step5\">Step 5: Reinstalling<\/h2>\n<p><div class=\"article-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-21558\" src=\"https:\/\/onpremise.inflowinventory.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/09\/55562450_6-2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"925\" height=\"668\" srcset=\"https:\/\/onpremise.inflowinventory.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/09\/55562450_6-2.png 925w, https:\/\/onpremise.inflowinventory.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/09\/55562450_6-2-300x217.png 300w, https:\/\/onpremise.inflowinventory.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/09\/55562450_6-2-768x555.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 925px) 100vw, 925px\" \/><\/div><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Download the latest version of inFlow that you&#8217;re eligible for by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/manage.inflowinventory.com\/\">logging into your account here<\/a>. If you&#8217;re a new user, you can get the latest version of inFlow\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/onpremise.inflowinventory.com\/software-download\">here<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Run the installer. When you&#8217;re done, click Start inFlow!<\/li>\n<li>You can restore your data by going to the <em>Main Menu &gt; General &gt; Restore Data<\/em> and then restore from an inFlow backup file (.ifi file or .ifz file).<\/li>\n<li>Then log in to inflow by going to <em>Main Menu &gt; Options &gt; About inFlow.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>If you don&#8217;t have one you can try looking in the auto-backups folder: <em>Main Menu &gt;Options &gt; Settings &gt; Auto-backup<\/em> and then restore to an auto-backup of your choice. The copied files in Step 2 of clean up can be deleted once you&#8217;ve successfully restored.<\/p>\n<h2>It&#8217;s still not working!<\/h2>\n<p>If it still fail to install, there are a couple of things to try\u00a0<strong>after<\/strong>\u00a0clean up that could help:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Check that your Windows is up to date: Click Start (or hit your Windows Key) &gt; type in Windows Update and click\u00a0<strong>Check for updates<\/strong>. Install any &#8220;Important updates&#8221; you see. <strong>Restart your computer<\/strong>\u00a0first before trying to install inFlow.<\/li>\n<li>Disable any antivirus software which could be interfering with the installation. \u00a0Usually you can find an icon for your antivirus software in the system tray (bottom-right corner of Windows), and if you right-click on it there&#8217;s often an option to disable it temporarily.
