{"id":3175,"date":"2014-12-16T20:56:59","date_gmt":"2014-12-17T01:56:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.inflowinventory.com\/support\/article\/3175\/troubleshooting-errors-sending-emails-from-inflow\/"},"modified":"2018-11-08T12:25:36","modified_gmt":"2018-11-08T17:25:36","slug":"troubleshooting-errors-sending-emails-from-inflow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/onpremise.inflowinventory.com\/support\/article\/60068344\/troubleshooting-errors-sending-emails-from-inflow\/","title":{"rendered":"I can&#8217;t send emails from inFlow On-Premise, help!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you&#8217;re having trouble sending emails from inFlow, there are a few things to check:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"#network\">check your network access to send emails<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#password\">check that your email\/password settings are correct<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#twofactor\">check if you&#8217;re using two-factor authentication<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#authorize\">check if you need to authorize inFlow On-Premise to send emails<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#oauth\">check that apps that don&#8217;t use OAuth have access to your email account<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 id=\"network\">Check your network access to send emails<\/h2>\n<p>When you click send, the email will actually attempt send\u00a0through the\u00a0inFlow server computer (i.e. your main computer, which physically carries your data). In multi-user mode, this may not be your computer so it&#8217;s important to check that first.<\/p>\n<p>Please try going to the <strong>server<\/strong> computer and check that <code>C:\\Program Files\\inFlow Inventory\\inFlow.exe<\/code> is listed as an <a href=\"http:\/\/windows.microsoft.com\/en-ca\/windows\/communicate-through-windows-firewall#1TC=windows-7\">exception on your Windows Firewall<\/a>. If inFlow.exe isn&#8217;t listed yet, you may need to press the &#8220;Add&#8221; button near the bottom to put it on the exception list.<\/p>\n<h3>Antivirus<\/h3>\n<p>Please also check that inFlow.exe is whitelisted or listed as an exception in any anti-virus programs you may be running (eg. Kapersky, Norton, Avast, etc.). If you&#8217;re not sure how to do this, try Googling [<em>name of your anti-virus program<\/em>] + <em>whitelist<\/em>, and you&#8217;ll find relevant instructions.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re using Avast, a feature called Mail Shield can prevent inFlow On-Premise from sending emails.\u00a0 Try disabling \u201cScan\u00a0Outbound Mail (SMTP)\u201d before attempting to send email through inFlow On-Premise.\u00a0 You can find\u00a0more information on Avast\u2019s Mail Shield on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/help.avast.com\/en\/av_free\/17\/settings_sh_mail_basic.html\">their support page<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Proxy Server<\/h3>\n<p>If your company has a proxy server set up, it may not be configured properly in this case. The inFlow application server typically runs under a different user account than usual. You may want to try adjusting your proxy settings to allow connections through from that user as well.<\/p>\n<p>Please complete any of the applicable steps above, reload inFlow, and try to send your email again.<\/p>\n\n<h2 id=\"password\">Check that your email\/password settings are correct.<\/h2>\n<p>Please double-check your login and password are set correctly. \u00a0Additionally, if you&#8217;ve recently changed your password to login to your email (outside of inFlow), then you&#8217;d need to update that in your inFlow settings as well.<\/p>\n<p><strong>To update the settings:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ol>\n<li>Go to <em>Main Menu &gt; Options &gt; Personal Settings &gt; Set Email Settings.<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Click on\u00a0<em>Modify<\/em> at the bottom.*<\/li>\n<li>Re-type the password and save your changes.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote><p>If you are on an older version of inFlow, you may not have a\u00a0<em>Modify<\/em> button. You would need to reset and re-do all the settings if that&#8217;s the case.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019ve tried a few times and are still having trouble, you may want to try entering your SMTP settings into another program like Microsoft Outlook to see if you can successfully send emails there, then cross-reference that with inFlow.<\/p>\n<h4><\/h4>\n<h2 id=\"twofactor\">If you\u2019re using two-factor authentication<\/h2>\n<p>Two-factor authentication is an extra layer of security for your email, where when logging in, the provider will typically send you an SMS message to your phone with a verification code (in addition to your email and password).<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re using two-factor authentication, you may need to create an app-specific password as the password. Here\u2019s the instructions on how you set that up for <a href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/accounts\/answer\/185833?hl=en\">Gmail or Google Apps<\/a>, for <a href=\"http:\/\/windows.microsoft.com\/en-ca\/windows\/app-passwords-two-step-verification\">outlook.com \/ hotmail.com<\/a>, and for <a href=\"https:\/\/help.yahoo.com\/kb\/SLN15241.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Yahoo<\/a>. When you&#8217;ve created the app-specific password, use that password when setting up your email in inFlow.<\/p>\n<h4><\/h4>\n<h2 id=\"authorize\"><b>Check your email settings to see if you need to authorize inFlow On-Premise<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Your email account can block emails from being sent if you haven\u2019t authorized inFlow\u00a0On-Premise to access it. Try checking your email account settings for a list of recent account activity to see if there\u2019s a blocked source. \u00a0For more specific instructions please check these support articles from some common email providers:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/accounts\/answer\/6264236\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gmail: Manage account security settings<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-us\/help\/13782\/microsoft-account-what-is-the-recent-activity-page\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Microsoft (Outlook, Hotmail, Live): What is the recent activity page?<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/help.yahoo.com\/kb\/SLN2073.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yahoo: Find and remove unusual activity on your Yahoo account<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You may also have received an automated email in your inbox notifying you of a blocked sign-in attempt. \u00a0You can follow the instructions in the email to authorize inFlow\u00a0On-Premise to access your account.<\/p>\n\n<p><div class=\"article-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn2.inflowinventory.com\/inFlowWebsite\/images\/KBImages\/v3_kb_email_trouble.png\" width=\"994\" height=\"669\" \/><\/div><\/p>\n\n<h2 id=\"oauth\">Allow apps that don&#8217;t use OAuth to access your email account<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">inFlow\u00a0On-Premise can be blocked from sending emails because it doesn\u2019t use OAuth (an\u00a0extra security feature that hides passwords) to log into your email account. To let inFlow\u00a0On-Premise send emails you may need to first enable an email account setting.
